PCIT International Training Agreement

These are the minimum training requirements for all PCIT International trainees. PCIT International training is strictly for Licensed Clinicians or Provisionally Licensed Clinicians with Supervision.

PCIT International Training Components

Component 1

Participate in the PCIT International Pre-Work Call (1 hour, virtual)

Component 2: Participate in 3 days of In-Person PCIT International Part 1 training

Trainees must complete Part 1 before they are able to move on to Part 2. No refunds will be processed once Part 1 commences. Trainees are responsible for their own travel costs. Materials will be provided to you.

Component 3: Participate in 3 days of PCIT International Part 2 training

Trainees must complete all of Part 1 and Part 2 to be eligible for ongoing consultation and to apply for certification.

Component 4: Participate in ongoing twice-monthly Consultation Calls

  • Trainees are expected to attend at least 75% of calls during the 12-month training period.
  • Trainees are expected to have cameras on during all calls.
  • Trainees are expected to provide updates regarding current cases.
  • Trainees are expected to participate in private spaces for confidentiality throughout the entire duration of calls. If a private space is unavailable trainees are expected to make accommodations for confidentiality such as using ear buds or headphones.

Component 5

Complete 2 cases to graduation criteria while under the consultation of a certified trainer, as outlined by PCIT International.

Certification with PCIT International

Those who complete the above minimum requirements will be considered graduated and eligible to apply for certification with PCIT International. Please note the process for becoming a PCIT International Certified Therapist has multiple steps to demonstrate competence as a PCIT International Therapist, summarized as follows:

  1. Upon completion of PCIT International Therapist Basic and Consultation Training, an applicant for Certified PCIT Therapist status must complete the Certified PCIT Therapist Application (available from PCIT International Certified Trainers or at www.pcit.org)
  2. Following acceptance of the Certified PCIT Therapist Application, the applicant must successfully complete the PCIT Certification Experience which reviews concepts covered in Basic and Continuation Training.
  3. Final decisions about certification of PCIT Therapists will be made by PCIT International.

To successfully complete the process to become a PCIT International Certified Therapist, applicants must demonstrate competence in core areas of the PCIT International protocol and implementation. PCIT International reserves the right to deny certification to any individual if minimum standards of competence are not met and appropriately documented, as outlined in the Training Requirements for Certification as a PCIT Therapist.

PCIT technology and supplies requirement acknowledgement

I acknowledge that I have read and understand the requirements for the PCIT technology and supplies that will be necessary to implement PCIT in my practice, or have discussed options for implementing PCIT via telehealth.

Calm down chair and calm down room

I understand the calm down chair and calm down room are integral parts of the second stage of the PCIT protocol. I further agree to use the calm down procedure to fidelity as instructed during the PCIT International Therapist Training and Consultation.

Virtual attendance acknowledgements

I acknowledge my virtual attendance for the scheduled dates and times for the Pre-Work Call, Part 1, and Part 2 is required, and I have made arrangements to attend these training activities in their entirety.

Differences between PCIT International Therapist Training and PCIT International Therapist Certification

I acknowledge I have read the introductory information regarding the differences between PCIT International Therapist Training and PCIT International Therapist Certification. While I understand PCIT International Therapist Training may lead to Certification, I also understand PCIT International Therapist Training does not constitute Certification.

Agency Support

I acknowledge and agree that my agency will support me as a PCIT clinician in the following:

  • Providing me protected time to attend twice-monthly, hourly virtual consultation calls
  • Providing me with a video camera for the required video consultation calls
  • Providing me with the necessary 2-4 cases (minimum caseload recommended) to complete this portion of PCIT International training
  • Allowing me to schedule PCIT clients for weekly sessions
  • Allowing me, with appropriate consents, to share videos of sessions with the trainer or allow a trainer to login to a live session for the purposes of meeting PCIT International Therapist competencies
