Held in Lincoln, Nebraska, this exclusive workshop includes interactive activities, take-home resources, and will provide practical information on:

  • Understanding the child welfare system and court processes
  • Preparing and practicing for testifying in court
  • Resources to work with domestic violence cases

Helping Therapists Navigate Child Welfare and Juvenile Courts

Presented by Michelle Paxton & Jamie Bahm (15-min break included)

This session offers a practical overview of how cases move through juvenile court, the role of DHHS and legal stakeholders, and how therapists can engage effectively while maintaining their therapeutic focus. Participants will gain guidance on preparing for testifying, responding to difficult questions, and communicating clinical information in ways that are clear and useful to the court.

Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence: At Minimum... Know This!

Presented by Angela Gebhardt

Participants will learn about the fundamental concepts and implications of domestic violence. Key topics include the impact of domestic violence on children, the role of power and control, and the risks associated with leaving an abusive relationship. Participants will also learn about the different types of protection orders and explore resources available across Nebraska and beyond.

Difficult Choices: A Child Welfare Domestic Violence Simulation

Presented by Taileigh Sorensen

This simulation will provide participants with an opportunity to explore the complex decisions that arise in child welfare and domestic violence cases. Participants will engage in role-playing scenarios that highlight the challenges and ethical considerations involved in these situations.
